Informing people about postpartum birth control methods in a comprehensive and balanced way is critical for promoting health while also safeguarding patient autonomy. To help, we created the Birth Control After Pregnancy, a patient decision aid on postpartum birth control, in collaboration with patients and perinatal care providers.

RIGHT FOR ME
Shared decision-making is the process of patients and health care providers making health decisions together by exchanging information, deliberating about available options, and coming to agreement on which option to implement. This approach is especially important for 'preference sensitive' health decisions. We conducted a cluster randomized controlled trial to compare the effectiveness of patient- and provider-targeted strategies for facilitating shared decision-making about birth control methods in the health care visit.
