2009 I conducted systematic review of evidence on clinical practices that affect the likelihood of perineal injury which has led to the inclusion of perineal injury as one of the Variable Life Adjusted Display (VLAD) indicators for state-wide monitoring of quality and safety in health care in Queensland

I undertook a commissioned systematic review of evidence on clinical practices that predict severe perineal injury during childbirth, as part of the development of indicators for statewide monitoring of quality and safety in health care. This review led, in part, to the inclusion of 'Third- and fourth-degree perineal tears' as an indicator in the statistical process control methodology used to monitor health care quality in Queensland.
